We live 15 minutes away and stayed here for two nights while work was being done on our house. Everything was as described and Edward is a very proactive and responsive host. Dog appreciated the rawhide bone and requested I mention that. The property is rustic and secluded (driven past it many many times over the years and never noticed it), yet in the middle of everything tourists could want. Wineries? Veritas (right next door), Afton Mountain, Cardinal Point, Valley Road (winner of 2026 VA Governor’s Cup for their Cab Franc Reserve), Flying Fox, and Hazy Mountain are all very close. A short drive gets you to top tier wineries like Pollak and Stinson. The Blue Ridge Tunnel is also very close and a very cool (literally…it’s cool in there) hike. Be sure to bring a headlamp for the tunnel. And you’re very close to the South entrance of Shenandoah National Park and the North entrance of Blue Ridge Parkway.

This little suite was amazing as a base camp for a peaceful getaway! It was nice to be able to walk around the grounds, and the shower and tub were to die for. I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in the mountains!

Getting around the area is simple, though a car is strongly recommended. Rockwell Ridge is set in a peaceful, rural mountain area where scenic drives are part of the experience. 🚗 By Car The easiest and most reliable way to get around. Route 151 provides quick access to wineries, breweries, cideries, hiking areas, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Most local attractions are within a 2–20 minute drive, and Charlottesville is about 35–40 minutes away. 🚕 Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) Rideshare availability is limited and inconsistent in this rural area, especially late at night or during off-peak times. Some guests use Uber or Lyft successfully for winery visits, but availability is not guaranteed. We recommend planning transportation in advance if you intend to use rideshare services. 🚶‍♂️ Walkability The immediate property is ideal for walking, with miles of private trails, creeks, and open land to explore. However, destinations outside the property—including wineries and restaurants—require driving. 🚲 Biking Biking is possible for experienced cyclists, but roads are rural, narrow, and often hilly. Guests should use caution, especially on Route 151 where vehicle traffic can be heavy on weekends. 🚌 Public Transit Public transportation is not available in this area and is not recommended for travelers. ✈️ Airport Access • Charlottesville–Albemarle Airport (CHO): ~40 minutes • Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (SHD): ~45 minutes • Richmond International Airport (RIC): ~2 hours • Washington, DC area airports (DCA/IAD): ~2.5–3 hours A vehicle will give you the most flexibility and enjoyment while exploring Virginia wine country and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
